- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The Shropshire Star
-
- A meteor storm provoked a spate of UFO sightings in Shropshire and North Wales.
-
- Police stations across the region were called by alarmed residents reporting
- unidentified flying objects last night as they saw the lights. And the meteor
- storm was to blame for a false report of a plane crash which sparked a major
- operation.
-
- Bill Teagle, of Beacon Brook House, Monkhopton, saw a coloured light plummet
- towards the earth as [he] drove through Aston Munslow.
-
- "It was a green and orange flash and it seemed to be towards the north but it
- was going towards the ground," he said. "It was like a firework but coming
- downwards."
-
- In North Wales a major operation was launched after a light aircraft was
- reported to have crashed at Caerwys near Holywell.
-
- A police helicopter was scrambled and three fire appliances went to the scene
- of the reported crash at the mountain Moel y Prc around 8pm.
-
- A spokesman for North Wales fire service said: "Air traffic control said there
- had been unusual meteorite activity in the area, causing the lights."
