  2. METEOR STORM SPECTACULAR SPARKS OFF UFO SIGHTINGS                      12/01/96

  6. A meteor storm provoked a spate of UFO sightings in Shropshire and North Wales.
  7.  
  8. Police stations across the region were called by alarmed residents reporting
  9. unidentified flying objects last night as they saw the lights. And the meteor
  10. storm was to blame for a false report of a plane crash which sparked a major
  11. operation.

  13. Bill Teagle, of Beacon Brook House, Monkhopton, saw a coloured light plummet
  14. towards the earth as [he] drove through Aston Munslow.

  16. "It was a green and orange flash and it seemed to be towards the north but it
  17. was going towards the ground," he said. "It was like a firework but coming
  18. downwards."

  20. In North Wales a major operation was launched after a light aircraft was
  21. reported to have crashed at Caerwys near Holywell.

  23. A police helicopter was scrambled and three fire appliances went to the scene
  24. of the reported crash at the mountain Moel y Prc around 8pm.

  26. A spokesman for North Wales fire service said: "Air traffic control said there
  27. had been unusual meteorite activity in the area, causing the lights."
